2003 Legislative Updates & Responses

  June 2003 Update
At the time of this publication, the revised Sand Dune Regulations are scheduled to be voted on by the Maine Board of Environmental Protection on June 19th.  The rules will then be sent to the Natural Resources Committee of the Maine Legislature for ratification.  These new rules include many of the recommendations of S.O.S. Maine which will protect the rights of coastal property owners in situations which would require building of property considered part of the beach system.

The impact of these new rules will be fully explained at the S.O.S.Maine Annual Meeting on July 19th.  Please plan to attend!

S.O.S. Maine has also been actively involved in the planning of the State of Maine Beaches Conference at Thornton Academy in Saco onJuly 9th. This year, the program has been geared towards the concerns of the coastal property owners.  Bob Foley will be presenting a session on "The Remapping of the Wells Floodplains."  We would like to see many of our S.O.S. members attend this conference.
